Obesity Care Week 2022 is Here!

GSA is serving as a champion organization for Obesity Care Week (OCW) 2022, taking place from February 27 to March 5.

Obesity is a disease that continues to be stigmatized and many of those impacted struggle to receive any care, let alone adequate and appropriate care. OCW provides an opportunity to stimulate change. You can sign up for OCW alerts to receive the latest news, information, and resources that will be rolled out this week, and to take action in support of this important issue.

GSA has a dedicated page on its website for obesity and overweight resources. At the top you can access our 2021 report, “Obesity in Older Adults: Succeeding in a Complex Clinical Situation,” which reviews the evaluation, consequences, and clinical management of obesity and overweight in older adults. This is accompanied by a recording of a GSA Momentum Discussion titled “Obesity: Its Effect on Increasing the Risk for COVID-19 and Other Health Conditions” and a podcast titled “Obesity and Its Disproportionate Impact on Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations.”

OCW 2022 aims to elevate the discussion on five key issue areas related to obesity: recognition as a disease; combatting weight bias and stigma; expanding access to care; treating obesity with science-based treatments; and expanding proven prevention programs.
