What are the benefits of choosing this section?
Researchers and professionals with interests in the biological processes that underlie aging typically choose to be members of the Biological Sciences (BS) Section. BS members have the opportunity to advance the scientific study of the aging process at the molecular, cellular and organismal level, as well as the understanding of specific disease conditions that are related to, or accompanying, the aging process.
What types of professionals affiliate with this section?
Our membership is multidisciplinary and includes individuals with interests varying from understanding molecular alterations that feature in the aging process to persons studying evolutionary forces that determine longevity differences among species.
What sort of GSA activities and networking opportunities are available to members of this section?
A set of networking opportunities is available to meet colleagues with similar interests in connection with BS-sponsored symposia, paper, and poster sessions, as well as at the section meeting. Members are also welcome to participate in BS committee work.
What opportunities are available for emerging scholars and professionals in this section?
The BS Section is committed to developing the next generation of bio-gerontologists. A yearly symposium is held during the Society's annual meeting to giving post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and junior faculty an opportunity to present their research. Annual awards are given by the BS section to recognize outstanding achievements of young investigators.
