Member Groups
GSA members can affiliate with a primary and secondary group depending on your field of interest. Each group has its own policies and procedures, leaders, awards and organizes dedicated programming at the Annual Scientific Meeting. Members participate in a variety of governance positions, serve on editorial boards of the journals, review abstracts for the Annual Meeting, and engage in special activities and projects.
GSA has six membership groups. A member may have a primary and secondary group affiliation. Members will only be eligible to vote, apply for awards and fellow status within their primary group.
*All designated Academy Representatives are eligible to vote, apply for awards and fellow status within AGHE regardless of their primary group affiliation.
- Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS)
- Biological Sciences (BS)
- Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization (ESPO)**
**All undergraduate, student and transitional members are automatically members of ESPO (you are not required to select ESPO as your primary or secondary affiliation). ESPO members will be eligible to vote and apply for awards within ESPO regardless of their primary section affiliation.
- Health Sciences (HS)
- Social Research, Policy, and Practice (SRPP)
- At-Large (AT): members may choose not to affiliate with any group and will be considered “at-large.” As an at-large member, you will be eligible to participate in all society-wide activities. You will be unable to vote in group elections, apply for your primary group awards or apply for fellow status.
