Congratulations to everyone involved in the preparation and production of GSA journals, from individual authors to reviewers to editors. The latest impact factors are in, and GSA’s peer-reviewed titles have had a stellar showing!
Impact factor is a measure of the frequency with which articles in a journal from the two preceding years have been cited in the given year. While this is not the only measure of a journal’s performance, it’s a leading indicator and an important consideration when authors are determining where to submit new manuscripts.
The Web of Science Group, which is part of Clarivate Analytics, is the entity that reports on impact factors each year. They issued a recent statement about how their calculations are evolving. The results are published in the annual Journal Citation Reports, and the rankings for 2022 were made available this summer. Several GSA journals achieved all-time high impact factors, and all continue to be in the top seven of the Gerontology category.
Here’s how GSA journals fared:
- The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences & Medical Sciences ranked seventh with an impact factor of 5.1 (Editors-in-chief: Gustavo Duque, MD, PhD, FRACP, FGSA, McGill University; and Lewis A. Lipsitz, MD, FGSA, Harvard University)
- The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences ranked fifth with an all-time high impact factor of 6.2 (Editors-in-chief: Derek M. Isaacowitz, PhD, FGSA, Northeastern University; and Jessica A. Kelley, PhD, FGSA, Case Western Reserve University)
- The Gerontologist ranked sixth with an all-time high impact factor of 5.7 (Editor-in-chief: Joseph E. Gaugler, PhD, FGSA, University of Minnesota)
- Innovation in Aging ranked second with an all-time high impact factor of 7.0 (Editor-in-chief: Steven M. Albert, PhD, FGSA, University of Pittsburgh)
Interestingly, this is only the second year that Innovation in Aging has been included in the rankings — it’s GSA’s open access journal, launched in 2017 — and it achieved the highest impact factor ever reached by a GSA journal.
To celebrate the above successes, GSA and its publishing partner, Oxford University Press, have curated a collection of high impact papers from across the GSA portfolio, which are freely available to read, enjoy, and share.
